Hey! So Glad You're Here.

NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illnesses, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI on Campus is a sub-branch from NAMI that focuses on student's lives and activities at the university level.

By creating a NAMI on Campus chapter at UVA, we aim to provide and assist students and established resources at the university through extensive collaboration efforts and publicity.  Our main goal is to reduce the stigmas that prevent individuals from seeking help. We hope to do this by breaking the silences, shame, secrecy, and myths which have been attached to one’s mental health. Additionally, in partnership with our Regional Chapter, a local mental health advocacy organization, NAMI on Campus at University of Virginia strives to generate a supportive space where students, faculty members, and members of the community feel safe and secure.

Why make this site?

We want to acknowledge and ease the difficulty of managing mental health in times of worldwide crisis. By bringing your voices together through our journal, we hope to provide comfort in times of turbulence!

What if I want to get involved with NAMI On Campus at UVA?

That's great! There's tons of ways. NAMI is dedicated towards advocacy, both in the Charlottesville, Virginia, and USA. We also focus our events toward group discussion, holding workshops on mental health and wellness, as well as supporting one another.

How do I keep up-to-date on relevant mental health-related legislation?

The American Foundation Foundation for Suicide Prevention lists various bills that have been proposed, both at the national as well as the state levels. Many pieces of legislation being proposed will affect the lives of many who experience their own crises and challenges, regardless of COVID-19 pandemics.
